 The build FAQ

  • The trail will be around 1,700 metres in length. It will be split into three sections allowing access in and out of the trial at various points. This also means we can open each section up to riders as it’s built.

  • We’re working with the Wellington City Council and local businesses to have a three party maintenance scheme for the trail. Taking the the load off of the Matairangi Trail Builders.

  • The trail will be grade 4, with optional grade 5 features similar to Roller Coaster, allowing more experienced riders to craft their own lines and link features together.

  • The build cost for this trail is estimated to be $170,000. With generous donations of materials from local building companies this figure has been reduced from initial estimations.

  • 1,700m (total)

  • 15+ jumps

  • optional grade 5

We’d love to hear any queries you’ve got about the build

Notes

  • The $170,000 cost doesn’t include the countless hours of Trails Wellington volunteer hours to liaise with the Council to develop the concept, lobby Councillors (and Council Officers) and ultimately get their buy-in and approval.

  • Your donation doesn’t give you ownership of Matarangi/Mt Vic, but it does give you ownership in the Trail Build

  • Pyramid Scheme has been the project name to date - this will change when it’s officially named by local Iwi
