North Face was an existing premium trail from the summit of Makara Peak that in 2021 was due a rebuild. The location is exposed, rocky and being inhigh use needed some love. Makara Peak Supporters requested Trails Wellington help refresh the trail. Trails Wellington provided funding for TGL Contractors to do the work.
Northface remains one of the most popular trails down from the summit. It has some lovely, playful features and is regarded as more intermediate grade than the newer Pōhatu.
